The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (CDG), a Main Street Iowa Organization, will be hosting a volunteer recognition celebration Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at The Local/Glyn Mawr Winery, 103 1st St. NW, Mount Vernon.
This event, with a theme of “Roaring 20s,” will celebrate the 520 registered CDG volunteers who cumulatively have logged more than 67,477 volunteer hours since the organization began in 2008.
Heavy hors d’oeuvres including meat balls, deviled eggs, “pastry pigs,” finger sandwiches, and a vegetable tray, while supplies last. The committee chose foods reminiscent of popular “1920”s foods. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Volunteers are planning activities including a Roaring 20s costume contest. The Local will be turned into a family-friendly speakeasy for the event, which will be free and open to everyone.
Also, the CDG Volunteer of the Year, Business of the Year, Committee of the Year and Citizen of the Year honors will be recognized. In addition, CDG will be presenting awards to three outstanding volunteer board members (John Brehm, Barb Ihde and Michelle Zaruba).
Awards to be presented include:
Volunteer of the Year: Lisa Lansing for outstanding work managing the visitmvl.com website refresh
Committee of the Year: Van Gogh Bedroom at Arles “walk-in” art exhibit at Chalk the Walk
Business of the Year: Iron Leaf Press for the work on their new space at 113 1st St. NE
Citizen(s) of the Year: Kernoustie Golf Course for its extended support over the years of CDG, including long-time support of hosting the annual Heritage Days Fireworks
“I hope the entire community will join us at our speakeasy inside The Local to celebrate our timeless and tireless volunteers,” said Amy Hall Haney, chair of the CDG Organization Committee. “Please dig out your best flapper or other 20s-era costume and join us in thanking all who make our communities better.”
