The Nourishing Root had its final day of business Friday, July 28.
“It’s been a really tough decision,” said Marva Becker, owner. “I have two other businesses, my patch business and my business as a life coach, that are just really taking off for me.”
Becker said that if she were to have started the business over later, she might have looked at more evening or extended hours, but that wasn’t the business plan or model she had started the café with.
“I met a lot of great people because of the café, though,” Becker said. “The people in this community are all welcoming and have been very supportive.”
Like she posted on her Facebook’s business page Friday, July 28, sometimes the universe gives you signs of things you can either choose to ignore or move forward, and she was choosing it was time to pursue the other two businesses and other opportunities that both are creating.
“With the momentum both are showing right now, I had to consider them,” Becker said.
Her coaching business has opened an opportunity in the east, which will mean an eventual relocation from the state of Iowa.
“I’m definitely going to miss being able to see all that’s going on in uptown Mount Vernon,” Becker said. “And of course, all our patrons. I’ll miss my coffee brewed here.”
Becker noted that even with her business closing, however, she was excited about some of the other openings and changes coming to uptown Mount Vernon.
The Plantiful Pantry getting ready to open its doors to the public soon, as well as Bigs BBQ working on moving to uptown Mount Vernon are among those changes.
Becker will be opening the business Aug. 15 to sell the inventory of tables, restaurant equipment and other furnishings, as well as any remaining shelf-stable products.
