Heather Riniker daycare will again be holding their lemonade stand Aug. 7 through Aug. 9 at First Street Community Center, from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. all three days.
The stand, which has been operating over the past six years, has helped support community causes. Two years ago it was to help Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Theatre’s construction of an outdoor stage for their Shakespeare in the Park production. Last summer it was supporting Summer Brand, who was undergoing treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer.
This year, the daycare is looking to provide support for Lillian Hankemeier, who is battling t-cell lymphoma, an aggressive form of cancer. Hankemeier was diagnosed in November 2022. A former campaign with Cause Team in Mount Vernon raised more than $17,000 for the Hankemeier family.
Lillian is originally from Clarence and an alum of North Cedar. Her husband, Steve, graduated from Tipton. The couple were married in October 2017 and have two children – Eleanor and Phillip.
Lillian’s children attend the Riniker daycare.
“We want to help raise as much as we can for Hankemeier to help with her ongoing treatment of lymphoma,” said Lana Riniker.
The lemonade stand is run by the second through seventh grade children at Riniker’s day care, with many of those children helping to bake cookies that will be up for sale at the stand. They will also have homemade lemonade for sale.
“We’ll be working on the signs to continue to remind people about this lemonade stand Monday, Aug. 7, through Wednesday, Aug. 9, as well,” Nora Weber said.
The goal for the stand this year is to top $1,000.
“We’ve raised more and more money each year, with last year hitting $964 for Summer,” Lana said.
Will Mollenhauer is looking forward to making sugar cookies as part of the event.
Suzannah Laharne is looking to make chocolate chip cookies with M and Ms or just chocolate chip cookies.
Cecilia Rife is looking forward to making peanut butter and butterscotch cookies.
