After 22 years of professional and dependable service, Alan M. Shepley has retired as chairman and board member of Mount Vernon Bank and Trust Company.
Replacing Shepley’s spot on the bank board is Olivia C. Randall, owner and president of Bauman & Co., Inc.
Shepley, a longtime local pharmacist, moved to Mount Vernon in 1980. He was an owner/operator/shareholder of Shepley Pharmacy and its successor, CR Pharmacy Service, Inc., for nearly four decades. He and his wife, Barb, have been active members of the community ever since. They have three grown children – Scot, Eric and Sara – and seven grandchildren.
Bank president David M. Ryan thanked Shepley for his selfless service to the bank and the community.
“Al Shepley has demonstrated what every small-town business person should aspire to: a life of service and kindness, while giving of his time and talent to others,” Ryan said. “Between his local successful pharmacy business, volunteerism and bank board service, he has positively impacted a lot of lives in the Mount Vernon-Lisbon area”.
Longtime board member and bank CFO/Executive Vice President Craig A. Smith replaces Shepley as the bank board’s chairman.
Olivia Randall’s board service began in July. She and her husband, Josh, purchased the longtime local clothing store in 2019. Bank president Ryan said Randall is a perfect fit for the bank board.
“Uptown business representation has been an important piece of our 140-year-old bank through the years,” Ryan said. “Olivia’s replacement of Al Shepley on the board fits our culture in many ways, as Olivia and her Bauman’s staff are skilled competitors in their marketplace, both in terms of personal face-to-face service and transactional internet sales. To be successful today in small-town business, you have to do both of those things very well.”
Ryan added: “Additionally, Olivia and her family are ingrained with Cornell College and the small towns of Lisbon and Mount Vernon. She will be a fine addition to our board.”
An Iowa City native and Cornell College graduate, Olivia taught science at Clear Creek Amana High School for four years prior to purchasing Bauman & Co. Olivia and Josh reside in Mount Vernon with their three children, Paul (5), Marie (3), and Joel (1).
