Another Heritage Days is in the books, and there’s some praise for the event this year.
With Kernoustie Golf Course not an option, some of those family friendly activities had to change their location. The Mount Vernon Bank and Trust’s kids fun run was just a perfect event for the Mount Vernon track. Yes, it meant a busy Palisades Road at roughly 5 p.m., but with the close proximity to the Lester Buresh Family Community Wellness Center, that just flowed traffic from one location to the next. The track did not feel crowded or congested, it’s some place every one knows in the community, and it was designed to host activities like this.
The block party at the LBC was again another perfect event. In 2022, because of weather, that event had to move indoors. Having multiple food trucks, inflatables, games and tables in the front yard of the community space made this feel like a party the whole community was invited to. And man, the variety of cuisines at the vendors made sure there was something for every one.
The rain tried to delay the fireworks and put a damper on how many attended the outdoor picnic at 8:30 p.m., but when it passed, the event went off as planned. Volunteers helped to clean up fireworks debris early Saturday morning ahead of the Heritage Days parade.
Heritage Days taking advantage of both sides of Highway 1, as has become something that happens at a lot of community festivals, was also beneficial. It didn’t feel cramped to visit places like vendors, the fun zone, carnival games and car show.
And the weather couldn’t have been better for the festival this year on all three days.
Memorial Park Family Fun Zone continues to be a great event, with their choice of themes and games, and closing the street in front of the park adds to the safety of kids attending.
We know there’s a lot of work that happens for this event every year by a number of volunteers and committee to make this happen, and kudos on another great festival.
