The Lisbon Lions played a series of increasingly competitive games last week in the run-up to the boys baseball state tournament, winning each by decreasing margins to advance in postseason play.
Saturday, July 1The Lions defeated Springville 10-0 in Lisbon July 1 in district action.
The home team scored five runs already in the first inning in a five-inning contest, cut short by the mercy rule.
The Orioles returned to Springville scoreless and at the end of their 2023 season.
Dillon Brayton notched a triple that scored two teammates.
Hunter Clark also had two RBIs in the win.
Alex Bock was crucial on both sides of the plate, going 2-4 at the bat with an RBI, while being the game’s winning pitcher. Bock threw for five innings and struck out eight Orioles.
Wednesday, July 5 The Lions hosted the Belle Plaine Plainsmen after a holiday weekend for further regional play.
The home team opened up a 5-1 lead after the first inning, and the two teams next played four scoreless innings.
In the sixth, both teams tacked on two runs to arrive at the game’s final score of 7-3.
Dillon Brayton had a hot bat for the Lions, as his two hits produced two crucial RBIs for the team.
Hunter Clark and Cohen Kamaus split duty on the mound, with Clark pitching six innings and fanning 10, and Kamaus pitching one inning and striking out one.
Saturday, July 8The district finals found the Lions again playing hosts as Easton Valley gave the 24-4 team a run for their money.
The contest, which Lisbon eventually won 4-3, went to 11 innings.
Alex Bock, who is batting .419 on the season, had another big game for the Lions with a triple and an RBI.
Senior pitcher Cohen Kamaus threw for nine and a third innings in the matchup. Kamaus, with a season ERA of 1.48, struck out eight River Hawks in his time at the helm.
