Mount Vernon celebrated Heritage Days this year with a theme of family friendly Mardi Gras.
Changes this year included the location to the Mount Vernon Banks and Trust Kids Fun Run, held this year at the Mount Vernon School track along Palisades Road. More than 125 youth participated in the event this year.
David Ryan, bank president, said it’s a great family friendly event to kick off Heritage Days weekend.
Lester Buresh Family Community Wellness Center hosted the block party to kick off Heritage Days Thursday evening, with multiple food truck vendors, lawn games and live music contributing to the atmosphere.
There was a brief squall of rain that dampened some of the picnic attendees at Cornell College Friday evening, but the fireworks show went off at dusk.
Saturday was jam packed with festivities for Heritage Days, including the alumni breakfast at Mount Vernon Schools, parade, family fun zone, carnival games, bingo, car show and baggos tournament, as well as theme days at the Mount Vernon pool.
The evening concluded with a street dance in uptown Mount Vernon.
