The Lisbon Lions varsity softball squad went six-for-six last week, extending their winning streak to seven consecutive games.
The team is now 22-2, and tops in the Tri-Rivers East — by a country mile.
Monday, June 26The Lions opened their week with a doubleheader at Central City, where they handily defeated the Wildcats 4-0 and 14-3.
Game one The visiting Lisbon squad took game one 4-0, after posting two runs in the first, a run in the second, and a final run in the third, while shutting out the Wildcats.
Peyton Robinson, Blair Baltes, and Ella Clark each had an RBI in the effort.
Game two
The second of the two games was less competitive, with the Lions posting five runs in the first inning, and six more in the fourth, with yet another three the following inning.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the the fourth, but their effort fell short.
Blair Baltes racked up four RBIs and a home run.
Addi Petersen took the win as pitcher, throwing five innings and striking out one.
Tuesday, June 27 The Lions traveled the following night to take on third-place Marquette Catholic, taking the games 6-1 and 14-3.
Game one
It took Lisbon a little time to warm up, but they got the job done in game one, with one run scored in the second, two in the sixth, and another three in the seventh.
The team held Marquette to just one run, scored in the sixth.
Addi Petersen was successful on offense and defense, with two hits leading to three RBIs, and pitching seven innings in a winning performance at the mound.
Ella Clark had a key triple in the effort.
Game two
Marquette struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Lions ran away with a decisive 14-3 win in the second game.
Peyton Robinson knocked in four runners on three hits, while Kaitlynn Hasselbusch added two more RBIs.
Alexa Roos was the game’s winning pitcher, throwing six innings and striking out three.
Thursday, June 29The Lions were at it again two nights later, this time on their home field.
The team hosted Maquoketa Valley, winning the pair of games 11-1 and 12-0.
Game one
Though the game was tied at one after three innings, the Lions blew the game wide open with eight runs in the fourth to put themselves out of reach.
Addi Petersen took the win on the mound.
Game two
Lisbon posted 10 runs in the first inning, and two more in the third to make for an abbreviated second game.
Ella Clark accumulated six RBIs in the contest, and two doubles.
Alexa Roos was the game’s winning pitcher, with three innings and two strikeouts.
