Mount Vernon city administrator Chris Nosbisch gave a great outline of the items on the horizon for the community of Mount Vernon over the next five years. The speech was part of a Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group event hosted Wednesday, June 21.
Among those major topics and projects coming up are the Mount Vernon streetscape project and a new aquatic center.
Nosbisch highlighted in his report the funding and borrowing capacity for the city and the types of discussions that members of the city council will be having in the future, as well as a timeline for the streetscape RFP and the new pool project.
Yes, it’s going to be a busy five years for the community of Mount Vernon, and neither of these projects is small. Getting people looking at these projects now and being mindful of what is being discussed is important. On the streetscape project, Nosbisch said the city is hoping for six input sessions for citizens and impacted businesses, as this will potentially impact a lot of the uptown businesses in Mount Vernon.
It’s a road map that also highlights other smaller projects that are also in consideration by the city – expansion of the trails project to tie into a Cedar Rapids recreational trail that could connect in the future and required improvements to the wastewater treatment plant (which will be funded by water and sewer fees paid by citizens).
That so many citizens were present and asking questions and clarification about these topics speaks highly of the committed nature of this community to be looking forward to what is coming next for our city government.
