In recent months, the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council (MVAAC) awarded $500 grants for the production of a poetry/photography book as well as a youth art program.
Mount Vernon Poet Laureate Amelia Kibbie and photographer Robert Campagna received a grant to produce their book Final Elegance—Abandon and Return.
Southeast Linn Community Center was awarded a grant for their summer youth art program. According to Center director Nicole McAlexander, “Our program provides an opportunity to learn more about artwork, develop artistic skills and enhance creative thinking.” The art sessions serve children K-5 and are free and open to anyone in the Mount Vernon-Lisbon school districts.
MVAAC, founded in 2004, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting art and culture in the Mount Vernon-Lisbon community. In the past five years, more than $16,000 has been awarded for arts & culture projects. Grant guidelines and the application can be found on the organization’s website www.mvaac.org
