Mount Vernon was the host for a tournament for a number of teams for the 10U, 11U and 12U softball teams Saturday, June 25.
One of Mount Vernon’s 11U teams, coached by John Klimek, wore pink jerseys and socks in honor of Summer Brand, who continues her battle with hodgkins lymphoma cancer. Many of the team members were either coached by Summer during former parks and recreation outings or know of her in the community.
Roughly 10 teams participated in the day long tournament, with each team guaranteed to play three games of softball on the day and the teams with the most winning records proceedng to a emifinal and championship game.
The tournament was also a fundraiser for the Mount Vernon Softball team, with many of the Mount Vernon softball players helping with ground maintenance of the fields between games.
Players on the Klimek 11U team have a brief meeting before taking the field.
