Run, drink and support a good cause. The Glyn Mawr Winery 5K Run and walk will return this summer Saturday, July 15. The race begins at 9 a.m.
Early pre-registration deadlines are approaching at the end of June for the race, but race day registration is also available for anyone who wants to participate. Race day registration does not guarantee a race shirt. Participants get a t-shirt, wine glass, finisher medal, race bib and the results of the race are posted online. Roughly 150 participants have already registered for this year’s run.
The race will follow the same route as last year, beginning and ending at the Glyn Mawr Winery/The Local’s parking lot. The race avoids crossing First Street and Highway 1, two of the busiest streets in Mount Vernon, but does traverse two blocks of Eighth Avenue/Springville Road between Eighth Street Northwest and Second Street North.
This year’s race proceeds will benefit Southeast Linn Community Center.
“We asked SELCC to be our non-profit partner this year because of how instrumental they are in our communities,” said Anna Wilson, organizer of the race and co-owner of Glyn Mar Winery/The Local. “We are fortunate to have a resource like theirs in our Lisbon and Mount Vernon area. The more people know about SELCC, the more SELCC can help others.”
Participants can run or walk the 5K and then enjoy a glass of wine from The Local or non-alcoholic beverage following the race.
“In conjunction with the Glyn Mawr Wine Run 5K this year, we will also be hosting Pups on the Patio Friday, July 14, from 5-8 p.m.,” Wilson said. “Guests are welcome to bring their leashed pups to enjoy yard games, free pup cups and pup treats, and complimentary cold water. Since we need to close off the parking lot the day before the run, we thought we’d optimize the additional parking lot space with a fun, community event.”
Wilson said it will be an all hands-on deck situation for staffing for the business race day, but they’re looking forward to the return of this event. J3Timing will provide timing for the event.
