Heritage Days events movingHeritage Days fireworks will be moving to Cornell College for this year, from Kernoustie Golf Course.
The event will be Friday, July 7.
With Heritage Days moving to Cornell College, there will be no alcohol allowed on Cornell College’s area. No one will be allowed on the football field at the fireworks.
“I think we can all still have a lot of fun, and hope a lot of people come out to this,” said Joe Jennison, director of Mount Vernon Lisbon-Community Development group.
Bon Appetit will be serving picnic like foods beginning at 8 p.m. as part of the event.
Seating to view the fireworks will be in the stands only at Van Metre Field at Ash Park Stadium, or the grassy area nearby.
Radio/computer purchase for
PD approved The council also approved purchases for new computer and radios for the police department.
City administrator Chris Nosbisch said the city was taking advantage of fiscal management for the Lisbon-Mount Vernon Police Department and staffing being reduced for a portion of the year.
Lisbon-Mount Vernon police chief Doug Shannon said that the computers had a five year warranty, and that most the equipment has outlasted that five year time frame.
He said the radios were not going to Motorola as a company was because he wasn’t sure that would have encrypted communications for police communications. The radios would work with Linn County, as well as Cedar County.
“I can use my radio to reach people in Des Moines now,” Shannon said.
The radios were more than 10 years old, nearing end of life.
Utility fees
waived for home impacted by fireThe city council approved waiving the monthly minimum utility fees for the property damaged by fire at 724 Eighth Avenue NW.
Council member Paul Tuerler said he was in favor, as long as it dictates the waiver for catastrophic incident, to make sure people not use to turn off utilities just because they aren’t residing in their home.
The council unanimously approved the waiver.
