The Lisbon varsity baseball squad suffered a pair of rare losses last week, but remained firmly at the top of the Tri-Rivers East conference, at 10-2 overall.
Monday, June 5The week began at Marquette Catholic, with the Lions coming out on top in both games of the doubleheader.
Game One
Lisbon picked up their first win with a score of 4-3.
Cohen Kamaus and Alex Bock were both instrumental in the first game, with Kamaus managing a hit and a run scored, while Bock contributed a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Landon Stolte and Hunter Clark took turns on the mound. Stolte threw three innings and struck out six while Clark pitched for four and fanned 10.
Game Two
Kamaus was again a key figure in the second half of the doubleheader, drumming up three RBIs and a stolen base behind the plate, and striking out seven in seven innings on the hump.
Stolte and Bock each added two hits to the effort.
The Lions took the second game 9-2.
Tuesday. June 6 The Lions were on the wrong end of a 14-4 score when hosting the Regina Catholic Regals the following evening.
It was a close game, with Lisbon even leading 4-3 for a while before the Regals managed to rock the Lions with 10 runs in the fifth inning, securing their 14-4 win.
Stolte and Bock each scored RBIs, while Luke Czarnecki took the loss on the mound.
Thursday, June 8The team’s fortunes reversed on the road at Maquoketa Valley, where, trailing 1-0, the Lions scored the final 19 runs of the game for a decisive victory.
Stolte and Hunter each homered in the contest.
Mount Vernon came up with 17 hits, while the Wildcats managed just five.
Friday, June 9Lisbon suffered their second loss of the week when hosting Anamosa the following night.
The Blue Raiders came up with six runs in the second, two more in the third, and yet four more in the fifth inning to defeat the home team 12-0.
Jackson Watters and Devin Brophy proved problematic for the Lions, with Watters batting 4-4 and each coming up with three RBIs.
Easton Wheeler was the winning pitcher, throwing for five innings and striking out three.
