Lisbon Fire Department was the recipient of a $1,600 donation from a lemonade stand running Monday, June 5.
Lisbon fire chief Brandon Siggins said the department had responded to a fire call at a detached garage at 302 First Avenue in Lisbon Wednesday, May 31. The detached garage was ruled a total loss, but the crew was able to keep the fire from spreading to the adjacent residence.
“Their electrical was set up in the garage for the house, so when that burnt down, they were without power,” Siggins said. “I worked with Alliant Energy to get them a new hookup installed and make sure they had power back up and running.”
By Friday, June 2, Siggins saw that a drink and cookies stand would be operating at the Megan Ellison home Monday, June 5.
“It was our intent to head to the home at around 5 p.m. and thank them,” Siggins said.
Of course, the department was paged for a grass fire at roughly 5 p.m. Monday afternoon, so they had to wait until that fire was back under control before members of the department could show up at the lemonade stand.
In the three hours the stand was operating at the Ellison home, more than $800 was raised, and Megan and her mother matched the funds raised to give back to the department.
“It’s not everyday that something like this happens,” Siggins said.
Siggins also noted that one of the things he has stressed to his department is that they do a lot of public relations work in the community, going above and beyond what a volunteer fire department may need to do.
“This is our department’s return on all of that good work,” Sigggins said.
