Helen Marie Caspers, 75, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday, May 30, 2023. A celebration of Helen’s life was held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday June 3, 2023, at Gwen’s Restaurant, Lisbon. A private family burial was held at the Lisbon Cemetery. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Helen was born at home in Mount Vernon, Oct. 24, 1947, the daughter of LaVerne and Wilma (Bailey) Sievers. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1965. On Jan. 2, 1966, she married Robert J. Caspers. While Bob was serving in the US Marine Corps, they lived in Millington, Tenn. and Cherry Point, N. C. After Bob served in Vietnam, they found their way back to Lisbon where they have resided since.
Over the years, Helen worked for the Lisbon Greenhouse, Mount Vernon Community Schools, Precision Bearing, Teleconnect, and retired after many years with AEGON/Transamerica. She enjoyed camping and traveling across the country, including a special trip to Hawaii for their 40th wedding anniversary. Helen also loved attending decades of all the sports activities of her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and bird watching in her backyard, especially her beloved cardinals. Helen’s family will always remember her homemade chicken and noodles and the many years of Christmas cookies she would bake for the holidays.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bob; children, Brett (Lesa) Caspers, Brian Caspers and Kara Caspers; grandchildren, Brittnee (Travis), Brandon, Kaley (Cole), Braden and Sam; and great-grandchildren, Blakely, Stevie and Kahle.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Don Sievers, Pat Montgomery, Sharon Nost, and Chuck Sievers.
Helen’s family shares sincere appreciation to her many caregivers including Dr. Bender and his team of doctors along with the nurses on 3JPP at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and the compassionate staff at the Lisbon Rehabilitation Center and St. Croix Hospice. During her treatments, Helen participated in a research program hoping to help others in similar battles.
