City administrator Brandon Siggins outlined the work high school summer help will be completing this year, and a vast majority of that help may be watering plants throughout the community.
Luke Czarnecki and Ben Morningstar will be returning at a $14 per hour, while Evan Kohlman will be hired at $13 per hour.
Siggins said between now and the end of summer, the city will be planting 30 new trees in the community. Those trees will need watering on a schedule. There will be 30 graves that have recently been seeded that will need watering to help grass get established. Then, there’s blocks that have had trees removed or ground dug up in the water main replacement project that will also need seeded grass to be watered as well.
“I’d also like them to scrape yellow paint off of some city streets and repaint those areas, power wash the gazebo, paint dugouts at the city parks and help with hanging door hangers for the continued water main projects,” Siggins said. “There’s also some mulch work at city parks and installing new equipment at Novak Park.”
The amount of watering could require two separate crews for the city.
“There’s not a lack of work for any city workers right now,” Siggins said.
There will be some stumps along Jackson Street that aren’t addressed until the water main project comes to that area, as the city doesn’t want to disturb those locations more than once.
Siggins said he may need to consider hiring a fourth summer helper, but wasn’t ready to make that decision. The council authorized that authority if Siggins deems it is necessary.
