The Mount Vernon varsity baseball team dropped a doubleheader to a tough Solon Spartans team at Spartan Stadium Tuesday, May 23.
Solon took the first contest by a score of 9-4, but game two was a much tighter race, with the Spartans coming out on top 6-5.
Game OneTait Rentschler had one of the most active bats in the first game, with a hit providing an RBI for the Mustangs.
Ethan Wood also came up with an RBI for the visiting team.
Ryne Moeller pitched just under three innings, striking out three Spartans.
Game Two Game two was the one that got away.
The Mustangs looked poised to pick up their second win of the season until a pivotal seventh inning dashed their hopes.
Mount Vernon had a 4-1 lead going into the seventh, where they added yet another run.
Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Spartans scored five runs in the seventh, giving them the lead and the win.
Colin Bentley had a strong effort for Mount Vernon, with three hits, three runs, two RBIs, and a home run. Ethan Wood had another active bat, with a double that scored two teammates.
Bentley threw for three innings and struck out six.
