The Mount Vernon Mustang Archery team traveled to Louisville, Kent., for the 2023 NASP Eastern Nationals for Bullseye and IBO 3D Challenge. In total, 15,492 student archers in grades four through 12 competed in the Bullseye and 3D archery tournament. 14,079 NASP Bullseye archers submitted scores as well as 6,434 NASP IBO 3D archers. A competition of this size needed to be held in the Kentucky Exposition Center and it is a site to see. These archers all earned the right to compete by advancing from state tournaments in thirty-three states including the Iowa State Tournament held in March. An estimated 40,000 friends, family, and volunteers were also present to help cheer on and support the student archers at the world’s largest archery tournament.
2023 NASP Eastern Nationals Bullseye resultsFor the bullseye team results, the Mount Vernon high school team finished in 35th place out of 253 schools, scoring a 3,328 as a team. The middle school team also had a great tournament shooting a 3,230 and finished in 41st place out of 240 competing schools. Our elementary team placed 117th out of 190 schools with a score of 2812.
A giant shout out to Lainey Kelly, who had a fantastic day and placed 10th in the Nation for high school females out of 2,461 in Bullseye, fourth overall for 11th grade females out of 541 and 16th overall female out of 6692.
Gabe Mahoney was on fire and placed 14th in the Nation for high school males out of 2510 archers in Bullseye. He was fourth for 10th grade males out of 726 archers and 16th overall male out of 7387 archers.
2023 NASP Eastern Nationals 3D results Our Middle School team has a solid tournament gaining a 48th place finish out of 156 schools. The high school team finished 121st out of 148 teams.
A huge congratulations goes to Lainey Kelly who placed second in the Nation for 3D High School Females out of 1104 archers. She was first for 11th grade females out of 224 archers and fifth overall female out of 3033.
On to Worlds in
Myrtle Beach All our Bullseye and 3D teams qualified for the 2023 NASP Open Championship (Worlds) for bullseye and 3D in Myrtle Beach, S.C. We also had had archers individually qualify for the tournament based on their scores from nationals. Because of the success we had at nationals, our high school team immediately felt that they wanted to continue the momentum and compete at Worlds. On June 9 and 10 our sixteen archers from high school team along with Paul Morris and Nathan Nederhiser will take aim against the best.
