May is National Historic Preservation Month, and the Lisbon Historic Preservation Commission celebrated with the three third grade classes at Lisbon Elementary.
Amelia Kibbie, secondary instructional coach at Lisbon Schools and Lisbon Historic Preservation commissioner, invited Mrs. Krall-Wiesler’s, Mrs. Campbell’s, and Mrs. Robertson’s classes to join her for a walking tour of Lisbon’s Main Street Historic District on May 15 and 16. Students heard the stories of our town’s historic buildings as well as the overall history of the Lisbon area.
Some of the landmarks included the Opera House, D&D Body Shop, the brick home that houses the Nelson Realty Group, the Lisbon Library building, and the storied history of our local bank.
The third graders had studied Lisbon history earlier in the year, and recalled many of the interesting facts they’d already learned about some of Lisbon’s early settlers and unique homes and businesses. Their retention of town history was extremely impressive.
The Lisbon Historic Preservation Commission would like to thank the third grade teachers for bringing their students along for the tour and celebrating the rich history of our town.
