The Mount Vernon-Lisbon girls tennis team has wrapped their postseason with a pair of losses in regional play.
Wednesday, May 10Regional play for the Mustangs kicked off Wednesday on their home courts.
In singles play, Ashtyn Rollinger lost to Maquoketa’s Briganna Rixen 3-6, 6-2, 12-14. Meredith McCollum lost to DW’s Riley Heiar 0-6, 1-6.
In doubles play Lainey Kelly and Tallulah Norton lost to Comanche’s Dorsey/Evers 0-6, 0-6.
Jordan Bleile and Kelsey Kamerling defeated Independence’s House/Sill 6-1, 6-3.
McCollum and Rollinger lost to DW’s Zhang/Takes.
Saturday, May 13 Regional play continued Saturday at Central Dewitt.
“We lost to independence 5-0, but had several fantastic performances,” said head coach Crystal Eskelsen.
“Jordan and Kelsey won the first set in doubles against Post/Gorman. They had played their best tennis as a doubles team this season.
“Ashtyn Rollinger won the first set at number 4 singles before falling by a tiebreaker. Molly Bany stepped in at 6 singles and played a really great match, losing the first set in a tiebreaker and leading the second set 5-1 when it was called,” reported Eskelsen.
The team wrapped their season at 3-9 overall.
