Three new officers were sworn in to the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department at the May 1 city council meeting.
Esteban Guitierrez is joining the department as a full-time police officer, having graduated from the Iowa Police Academy April 21. Guitierrez was originally slated to join the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, but the police department bought his contract.
“Esteban will be on several more weeks of training with our department moving forward as we enter the summer,” said police chief Doug Shannon.
Guitierrez is a graduate of Columbus Junction.
The department also swore in two additional reserve officers, Ralph Cortez and Nick Macke.
Cortez, originally from California, has previous Air Force service and is currently working security at Mercy Medical Center. He and his wife live in the Marion area.
Macke of Lisbon is a graduate of Midland High School, currently works at General Mills. He serves on the Lisbon Fire Department as a volunteer and is passionate about law enforcement as well.
