It was a record-setting Senior Day for Cornell’s track & field teams, which combined for 11 event titles on a warm Friday at the Cornell Invitational at Van Metre Field at Ash Park.
Sprinter Madison Osborn won three events and came within a mere .01 seconds from claiming a fourth in her final home meet to pace Cornell’s women, which scored 124 points for third place in the seven-team field.
The Rams also finished third in the men’s team race with 134 points, led by double winners Fisher Isaacson, Gavin Soukup and Jaxin McGuire.
In the first running event of the meet, Cornell’s women’s 4×100 relay blew away the school record with a swift time of 49.12. The quartet of Caitlyne Mar, Osborn, Sidney Brown and anchor Natalie McAllister ran uncontested and broke the previous program mark established in 2005.
Osborn swept the sprint races, winning the 100 in 12.75 and taking the 200 in 25.90. The senior ran leadoff on the runner-up 4×400 relay (4:10.07) of Hailey Carolan, Caroline Riss and Brown that crossed an eyelash behind Clarke (4:10.06).
Carolan took down Cornell’s longest-standing school record in the women’s high jump, clearing a winning height of 5 feet, 5 inches. The first-year broke the mark of 5-4.25 set by Lynn Maves back in 1980.
McAllister cruised to victory in the 100 hurdles with a quick mark of 14.94 that ranks in the top 50 nationally. Carolan was second in the race (17.16) and also took runner-up in the 400 hurdles (1:09.56).
Olivia Cotton scored a second-place finish in the 400 (1:05.64). Brown placed third in the 100 (13.19). The Rams were victorious in the 4×100 throwers relay. Cotton, Sam Koth, Maya Neymeyer and Sam Warhoe were clocked in 1:01.57.
On the men’s side, Isaacson was crowned champion in the 800 with a time of 1:58.31. The sophomore also ran on the winning 4×400 relay (3:30.18) with McGuire, Soukup and anchor Isaak Hutchings.
Cornell’s championship 4×100 relay of Doniel Greiner, Soukup, Austin Wilkins and anchor McGuire crossed in 44.78. Wilkins added a second-place effort in the 110 hurdles (17.70).
Thomas Coble (4:09.54) and Hutchings (4:16.30) went 1-2 in the 1500. The Rams fielded the top four finishers in the 10,000, paced by champion Noah Lutzke in 33:17.90. Tyler Bilskie placed second (34:20.13), Brodie Callahan third (35:46.07) and Ethyn Chesnut fourth (36:01.24).
Greiner placed fourth in the 200 (23.27) and LaQuanta Crawford fourth in the high jump (5-10.75).
