The Mount Vernon boys golf squad navigated some choppy waters last week, finishing last in a couple of events, but taking second place out of 10 teams at the Golden Hawk Invitational.
The team is now 14-9 overall.
Monday, April 10 The team headed Monday to Lake MacBride Golf Course, with both Solon and Williamsburg getting the better of them.
Solon’s Jack McCarty and Isaiah Zoske, as well as Williamsburg’s Crew Klinger, ended the event locked in a three-way tie for first, with each shooting a 38.
Nolan Jackson shot the low score for the visiting Mustangs, with a 45.
Tuesday, April 11The Mustangs placed second out of 10 teams in the Golden Hawk Invitational at Kalona Golf Course.
Hosts Mid-Prairie placed fifth.
Washington won the tournament with a 324 total.
The winning team’s Roman Roth shot the day’s low score with a 73.
Nolan Jackson and Cooper Parks each led the way for Mount Vernon, with both shooting an 88.
Wednesday, April 12The Mustangs came in last Wednesday at Stone Creek Golf Club, with Clear Creek-Amana coming way with the win.
Jackson again led the way for the visiting Mount Vernon team, managing an 85.
Thursday, April 13The Mustangs had another respectable showing Thursday at Tipton Golf and Country Club, tying with Maquoketa for third out of nine total teams.
Hosts Tipton shot the lowest score to earn the highest spot, with a 322.
Tipton’s Tristin Sorgenfrey was the player to beat, with a 72.
Jackson shot an 87, the lowest for the visiting Mustangs.
