A 7-0 second-quarter spurt carried Lake Forest to a 13-5 victory over the visiting Rams in a battle between Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference postseason contenders Saturday afternoon at Farwell Field.
Cornell moved to 2-2 in MWLC play with three matches to go in the regular season. The Foresters improved to 4-1 in the MWLC, one game back in the loss column to unbeaten co-leaders Saint Benedict and Northwestern.
The Rams held a 2-1 lead through one quarter behind a pair of unassisted goals from Sabrina Ibanez, giving her 16 scores on the season.
Lake Forest responded by scoring seven unanswered goals in the decisive second period, taking an 8-2 advantage into halftime.
Anna Methe added two second-half goals for the Rams. Cece Zanoni scored once for her team-high 34th goal of the spring.
Goalie Hannah Miech recorded 13 saves in a complete-game effort. Meg Lewis tallied four draw controls, while Ilsa Jeffery collected three caused turnovers.
The Foresters held a 35-14 advantage in total shots.
Earlier in the week, the Rams took a 10-9 victory over Hamline.
Both teams combined for eight goals in the fourth as the Rams were able to keep and never surrender their lead even as the Pipers accumulated five goals.
Goalkeeper Hannah Miech secured three of her 13 saves in the fourth to prevent the Pipers from taking the lead.
Anna Methe led the team with three goals and also had two ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Scoring came from six different Rams as Cece Zanoni moved to 33 goals on the year which leads the team and ranks second in the conference..
