The Cornell men’s and women’s 2023 outdoor track and field season opened at the Mustang Open hosted by Mount Mercy University Saturday morning.
The men took an 11th-place finish at 18 points as the women finished 3rd with 97 points. Both places are out of 13 teams in total.
Five events saw Rams get gold place finishes: women’s 400m, women’s 800m, women’s 1500m, and women’s 4 x 100 m relay, and the women’s 4x 400 m relay.
The women’s 400m saw Madison Osborn set a new personal record (1:00.38) to capture first place. Sidney Brown followed soon after in second with a time of 1:00.45.
In the women’s 800m three Rams placed in the top four: Alyza Koppes finished in first (2:25.70), Katie Lammers in third (2:29.60), and Ava Claussen-Tubbs in fourth (2:30.28.). Lammers and Claussen-Tubbs set new personal records in this event.
Lammers set a new pr in 1,500m finishing in 4:59.66. Koppes placed second in the event (5:02.58). Natalie McAllister placed third in the women’s long jump (16’ 7’’) and Cari Pickup placed third in the 400m hurdles (1:14.72).
The men’s 800m saw Fisher Isaacson finish fourth (2:00.85) and Thomas Coble in fifth (2:01.54). Coble and Isaacson also raced in the 1,500m: Coble placed fifth (4.07.94) and Isaacson finished seventh (4:10.92). Tyler Bilskie ran a 4:11.22 in the 1,500m to set a new personal record.
In the 400m hurdles, Jaxin McGuire grabbed a seventh-place finish (1:02.85).
