The Mount Vernon Middle School Science Olympiad Team placed first at the state science Olympiad competition Saturday, April 1.
The placement will allow the middle school team to participate in national science Olympiad competition to take place in Wichita, Kansas May 19-20. The last time the team won a state tournament was 2014. Cost to attend nationals will be roughly $16,000, and fundraisers will be planned to offset costs for the team. The team will be busy preparing for the competition.
Earning first place for the Mount Vernon Middle School teams included: Ellah Shook and Matthew Bany in bridge, John Bishop and Connor Teague in disease detectives, Logan Stanerson and Jonathan Winkler in solar system and Logan Stanerson and Nate Poduska in roller coaster.
Placing second for Mount Vernon were: Danny Dye and Mason Bany in meteorology, John Bishop and Mason Bany in flight, Nate Poduska, Matthew Bany and Jonathan Winkler in codebusters, Ellah Shook and Landon Grosse in fast facts, Ellah Shook and Landon Johanningmeier in dynamic planet, Matthew Bradbury and Jada Ripke in Crave the Wave.
Third places for Mount Vernon included: Matthew Bany and Kaylee Klinsky in sounds of music, Landon Grosse and Matthew Bradbury in can’t judge a powder, Landon Grosse and Matthew Bradbury in wheeled vehicle, Logan Stanerson and Kaylee Klinsky in rocks and minerals. And Jonathan Winkler, Mason Bany and Kaylee Klinsky in experimental design.

The Mount Vernon Middle School Science Olympiad team placed first at the state Science Olympiad Competiton Saturday, April 1. The team now qualifies for national competition in Wichita, Kansas, May 19-20.
