Lisbon, Mount Vernon, Martelle and Mechanicsville fire departments responded to a fire in rural Lisbon Monday, March 27.
According to Lisbon fire chief Brandon Siggins, the page for Mount Vernon and Lisbon fire departments was made at 1:20 p.m. for a fire on a residence along Linn Grove Road.
“When we get a call to a rural fire like that, we page other adjacent departments to help us provide water, since there might not be access to hydrants in the course of fighting the fire,” Siggins said.
When crews arrived on scene, thick black smoke was pouring from the home.
During investigation, the cause was a burner on an old electric stove in the basement which ignited a plastic container. The homeowner had moved the container on top of the burner and inadvertently turned the burner on, then left the interior of the home to continue work on the farm.
Siggins said there was minor smoke damage to the basement and first level of the home, but no injuries in the blaze.
Linn County Sheriff and Rescue, Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department and Lisbon-Mount Vernon Ambulance Service also responded to the fire call.
