Mount Vernon Bank and Trust Company president David M. Ryan recently announced that longtime local optometrist Dr. Richard J. Skotowski, OD, has retired from the bank’s board of directors. Skotowski and his wife, Cathy, moved to the Phoenix, Ariz., around the start of the year after retiring from his optometry practice.
“Rich and his family have been valuable members of our community for 40 years, and he has ably served on our bank’s board of directors for the past 14 years,” Ryan said. “Rich is the ultimate professional and possesses a calm and common sensical business demeanor in representing our shareholders. He’s been a great friend to all. I am glad he will be able to enjoy his retirement near his daughters and grandchildren in Arizona.”
Ryan also announced that local veterinarian Dr. Rik R. Smith, DVM, was appointed to replace Skotowski at the bank’s regular meeting in January.
“I am very pleased to have Rik join our board of directors,” Ryan said. “He is very respected and is a great talent in the agricultural community, and his business and entrepreneurial talents are impressive. I know he will be a wonderful addition to our bank board.”
Smith earned his undergraduate degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in agricultural economics in 2005, and his doctorate of veterinary medicine (DVM) from Iowa State University in 2009. He has been practicing veterinary medicine in Eastern Iowa for several years, and started Mount Vernon Veterinary Clinic PC in 2021. Rik and his wife, Dr. Jamie Smith, have three children and have lived in Mount Vernon since 2012.
