Captain Randy Rowland with the Linn County Sherifff’s Office officially retred Friday, March 17, after serving 43 years with the office.
The only deputy to serve the sheriff’s office longer than Captain Rowland was Lt. Gene Parks, who retired in 2014, who served just 10 days longer.
“For a law enforcement officer to serve the public for that long, specifically with only one agency, is quite unusual, especially in today’s workforce,” said Linn County sheriff Brian Gardner.
Rowland was hired as a deputy sheriff working in the Linn County Jail Divsion March 31, 1980.
Jan. 18, 1983 he transferred to the civil division and was promoted to sergeant in civil division December 1996.
He transferred to the patrol division April 2006 and then to the general services division December 2006.
He was promoted to lieutenant January 2008 and captain August 2017.
