Sidewalk repairs, tree removal bids approved.
The council also approved bids of $36,173 from Butteris Construction for sidewalk and apron repairs to the concrete around the Lisbon City Hall property.
The project will coincide with the water main project advancing in the community.
Repairs will be made as soon as July 1.
The council also approved $29,500 for tree removal with Cy’s Tree service, the lowest of three bidders.
“When we started tree removals for the water main construction, we were looking at roughly 200 trees down to put the water main in the green space, as opposed to under the roads,” said public works director Travis Bagby. “After the derecho, I can’t justify taking that many trees down, so we have been working to reduce the number of trees we remove.”
Summer help approved
The City of Lisbon will be hiring three summer workers to help get through the summer.
The city hired two summer workers last summer, and both have expressed an interest in returning.
City administrator Brandon Siggins said that with Jake Siggins out on temporary leave, as well as an additional operator tied up with the water main project, he was seeking an additional operator to work for the City from April through October. That position would assist mainly with mowing and weed eating of city properties for 30 hours a week.
Council member Rick Scott asked about the need for a city worker to monitor the water main project.
Public works director Travis Bagby explained that the city needs to insure samples are taken of the ground, the proper tests are done and that all the rules and regulations are followed as water main work is completed.
Downtown parking issues addressed
The City of Lisbon will be removing parking limitations of 2 to 6 a.m. in downtown Lisbon in the blocks between Main Street to Market Street.
A request from Laura Baxa asked for the change to allow people who rent apartments to park in downtown Lisbon.
When snow emergencies are declared, the cars will still need to be removed from the downtown to assist with snow removal.
The council considered potentially investigating parking permits, but enforcement of that is a nightmare for the police department.
