A total of 15 students were nominated for All-State speech from Mount Vernon and Lisbon. Mount Vernon had 12 total nominations, and Lisbon three. The festival takes place Monday, March 27 at the University of Northern Iowa.
Mount Vernon coaches Grant Freeman and Tawnua Tenley noted that 12 All-State nominations is a new record for the high school, another in an already full year of records for the team.
Lydia Benesh will be performing in acting in Center 5, the Bertha Main Theatre in the Strayer Wood Theatre Building in the 11:30 to 12:45 a.m. block. Her guest critic will be Kristy Hartsgrove Mooers of the University of Iowa.
Lillian Bishop will be performing in acting in the 10 a.m. block of Center 2 at Ballroom B of Maucker Union. Guest Critic will be J’Kalein Madison of The Guthrie Theater.
Summer Bowie-Smith will be performing in reviewing in the 1:30 p.m. block at Center 8 at Seerley Hall’s Great Reading Room for guest critic Teresa Lawler of Iowa High School Speech Association all of Fame.
Ashlynn Carter-Shook will perform in prose in Center 11 the Acting Practice Room of Strayer Wood Theatre in the session three block of 1:30 p.m. Guest critic will be Kristen Underwood of Luther College.
Cyrus Johnson will be performing in expository address in Center 6 in the 1:30 block at Lang Hall Auditorium. Guest critic will be Mitch Matthews of Matthews Training International: Dream Think Do.
Natalie Thuerauf will be performing in public address in Center 9 at the 10 a.m. block in Lang Hall TV Studio. Guest critic is still to be determined for that center.
Renee Vig will perform original oratory in Center 12 in the Oak Room of Maucker Union in the 1:30 p.m. block. Guest critic will be Dr. Ryan McGeough of the University of Northern Iowa.
Tori Oelrich will perform in poetry in Center 14 in Scholarship Space in rod Library in the 11:30 a.m. session. Guest critic will be Mic Evans of Theatre Cedar Rapids.
Cait O’Connor will perform in solo improvisation in Center 5 during the 1:30 p.m. block.
Mae Krapfl will perform in reviewing in Center 10 at University Hall in Maucker Union during the 1:30 p.m. block. Guest critic will be Nancy Libke of Iowa High School Speech Association Hall of Fame.
Claire Thuerauf will perform in poetry in Center 14 in the 1:30 p.m. block.
LisbonThe three Lisbon students participating in All-State are:
Samarah Cooley will perform in storytelling in Center 6 in the 10 a.m. block.
Ava Cossolotto will perform in expository address in the 1:30 p.m. block at Center 6.
Sawyer Feldman will perform in prose in Center 7 the Multicultural Center in Maucker Union in the 11:30 a.m. block. Guest critic is Danielle McGeough of the University of Northern Iowa.
