Mount Vernon school district’s new Mustang Activities Complex being built north of the high school is on track to be completed this summer and fall, Superintendent Greg Batenhorst reported at the March 8 school board meeting.
The project is “in great shape” and is well above $2.1 million in fundraising, he said. Letters have been sent to donors and potential donors.
The project has had only a very few idle days—just about a handful—Batenhorst noted.
About 90 percent of moving the dirt to get it to grade has been completed without problems.
The water retention ponds north of the high school have been cleaned out and are scheduled to be re-planted with grasses this summer.
New drainage pipes have been installed, and many utilities have been run underground.
Four gray poles that are the foundations for the complex’s light poles have been installed, and the scoreboard is being built.
The district has selected colors for the project and has an agreement on a storage unit to be located in the northwest corner of the facility.
It has decided to place approximately 85 trees along the trails, to be undertaken this coming summer and fall.
Substantial landscaping will also be done on the west side of the complex.
