Mount Vernon city council rejected the bids for the Davis Park improvements, after they came in more than $100,000 over engineer’s estimate.
City administrator Chris Nosbisch explained that the project had an original estimate of $530,000.
McComas Lancina Construction was the low bidder on the project, with base bid of $663,000 and $775,000 with alternates.
Nosbisch said that city engineer David Schechinger recommends rebidding the project, reducing some of the requirements for the concession stand building which may have contributed to the higher costs.
Elements will also be bid separately, separating the lighting of the project from the construction of the concession stand.
“That may help us get the best pricing, by getting more bidders on certain areas of the project,” Nosbisch said.
The project had hard start and end dates to not impact the use of the ball diamonds at the park, and Nosbisch said some of those dates might be lifted for components of the improvements.
The rebids on the project will start in the next month.
