The Lisbon Dance squad held a dance clinic for elementary and middle school dancers, as well as a showcase of different dance performances Saturday, March 4.
The squad has four different seniors this year. Lourdes Mason was with the squad during the year, but an injury just before state competition kept her from competing with the team at the state performance. Mason will be attending Iowa State University, where she will run track and field next year.
Riley Boots was a four-year member of the squad. On top of the four years with the dance squad, she’s been involved in student council, National Honor Society, wrestling manager and soccer.
Her favorite dance with the squad was the freshman pom dance the team performed.
Her favorite memory was winning state competition in 2022.
“We were one of the smallest dance teams that year, and we were nervous of how we would fare,” Boots said.
Alissa Gaiser was another four-year squad member. She’s also been involved in volleyball, choir, student council and National Honor Society.
Gaiser will be attending Iowa State University to major in business.
She was also a fan of the freshman pom dance.
Gaiser said that she has loved the positive attitude everyone brought to dance practices and building an encouraging environment for everyone.
Gabi Moehlman joined the dance squad for the first time her senior year, and coach Amy Geis noted she wished Moehlman would have come out a few years earlier.
Moehlman is involved in activities including track, cross country, softball and FCA. She plans on studying business at college.
Her favorite part of being in dance this year was attending state dance tournament this year.
“All the practices we had and building relationships with members of the team,” Moehlman said. “It’s been very fun.”
Geis noted that she loved the energy all the dancers put into the clinic working with younger youth this year.
She also commended the members of the dance team for the early hours and late nights of practices, either as teams or individuals.
“Your dedication to dance has helped our team,” Geis said.
Geis also praised the seniors on the team. Gaiser and Boots were part of three champion teams, as well as runner-up teams in one year.
Junior Kennedy Baxa said that Gaiser and Boots had taught her to be more confident on the floor and stop caring about what other people think. She also said she was so glad Moehlman had joined the dance squad this year.
