Mount Vernon can miss one more full day and one more partial day of school before it starts impacting the school calendar for the year.
Superintendent Greg Batenhorst noted that decisions to close or delay the start of the school are seldom easy.
“We do our best to make the best decisions we can to keep everyone safe, and school open as much as possible,” Batenhorst said.
Students must attend school for 1080 hours each year, and the school calendar has cushion for a number of days missed for inclement weather conditions.
“It is my hope that we can get to spring break without losing any more time, and then hopefully it will act a lot more like spring than winter around here,” Batenhorst said. “If we need to miss more than one full day and one partial day due to weather conditions, we will then make necessary adjustments to the school calendar to ensure we meet the 1080 instructional hours requirement. This could include adding days to the end of the school year, or adjusting time on scheduled early release days.”
