Cornell first-year Thomas Coble capped stellar debut at the Midwest Conference Track & Field Championships as the men’s 3000-meter champion Saturday afternoon.

Coble also anchored the distance medley relay of junior Noah Lutzke, freshman Jaxin McGuire and sophomore Gabe Hunt to a photo finish for second place. Ripon nipped the Rams for the title by a mere .01 seconds.
The Rams registered 14 points in the 800, led by a runner-up effort from sophomore Fisher Isaacson in 1:57.92. Sophomore teammate Isaak Hutchings followed closely behind in third place (1:58.48).
Cornell’s 4×400 relay took fifth (3:36.93) with the quartet of Gavin Soukup, Isaacson, Nathan Watters and Hutchings. Soukup added a point in the 400 (53.28), crossing eighth.
