Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community theatre presented their first cabaret show, with Uptown Caberet Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18.
More than 20 performers lead the three acts of the show, some favorite performers for the First Streeet Community Center stage as well as several newcomers.
“We wanted to do this to give more people in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City corridor a chance to experience the love this community has for live theatre,” said director Kami Zbanek-Hill.
Performers had one opportunity to perform with the house band in a dress rehearsal held Thursday evening, after the snow storm had rolled out of the community.
Zbanek Hill said that MVLCT is blessed to have a dedicated space for their shows, and funds raised will help with some needed improvements, includding updated lighting and sound system for performances of the future.
“We lost a lot of lights in the remodel to the top of the stage, and need to run electrical to be able to house them again,” Zbanek-Hill said.
The evening included a panoply of songs from Broadway musicals and other productions.
