The next ordinance to be updated between Mount Vernon and Lisbon will concern parking fines.
Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police chief Doug Shannon noted that in Lisbon, most of the changes will be cleaning up the language in the ordinance, such as the forms used for the tickets.
For the City of Mount Vernon, the changes will see the fines increase to what they are in Lisbon, which is $25 per offense and the late fee in Mount Vernon will be reduced to the $5 range. That will be a $15 increase for each parking offense.
As well, fees for parking along snow routes will remain at $25, and handicap violations will remain at $100.
“The goal here is to make sure that our fine amounts for both communities match,” Shannon said. “Mount Vernon’s ticket fines for parking issues have been cheaper than other communities for a number of years, and our officers need these ordinances to be the same in both communities to help with enforcement.”
A public hearing on the changes to the Lisbon ordinance will be set for Feb. 27 and the Mount Vernon public hearing is being proposed for March 6. (The Mount Vernon City Council meeting that scheduled the hearing was held Wednesday, Feb. 22, after print deadline for the Sun).
