Classes for Mount Vernon school district would run Aug. 23 through May 24, 2024, and Aug. 23, 2024, through May 30, 2025, under draft proposals presented by superintendent Greg Batenhorst at the school board meeting Monday, Feb. 13.
Staff members had a month to give feedback on the proposals before they were presented to the school board.
Under both plans, students would have 176 total days of school. Teachers would have 187 work days.

2023-24 calendarThe proposed 2023-24 calendar would be similar to this year’s calendar.
Classes would run from Wednesday, Aug. 23, through an early out on Friday, May 24, at 1:05 p.m.—just before Memorial Day on May 27.
Pre-school classes would run from Wednesday, Aug. 30, through Friday, May 17.
Seniors’ last day would be Thursday, May 16.
Graduation would be Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m.
The first semester would run 89 days, from Wednesday, Aug. 23, through an early out on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 1:05.
Winter Break would run seven days, from Thursday, Dec. 21, through Friday, Dec. 29.
Tuesday, Jan. 2, would be a teacher professional development day.
School would begin again for students on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
January Term—for eighth grade and high school—would run eight days, from Wednesday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan 12. Other grades would have regular classes those days.
Monday, Jan. 15, would be a teacher professional development day.
The second semester would run 87 days, from Tuesday, Jan. 16, through Friday, May 24, at 1:05 p.m.
School make-up days—if school hours are totaling less than 1080 hours—would be May 28, 29, 30, and 31.
Proposed 2024-25 calendarThis calendar is a little different than the usual school calendar. It would begin on the same day as the 2023-24 calendar but would end a week later.
Under it, classes would run from Friday, Aug. 23, through an early out an Friday, May 30, at 1:05 p.m.—after Memorial Day on Monday, May 26.
Seniors’ last day would be Thursday, May 22.
Graduation would be Sunday, May 25, at 2:00 p.m.
