Lisbon Schools will hold its budget hearing Monday, March 6.
The usual board meeting was moved to Monday evening because of an important meeting for business manager Laurie Maher that will be happening Tuesday, March 7 through Thursday, March 9. That meeting is of Iowa School business managers, and will be talking about the impact of some of the changes that have been made at the state level.
The district opted to move the meeting to March 6 as opposed to spring break week.
Maher said she is continuing to work on the budget at the moment, but will have it ready for publishing ahead of the budget hearing.
Board member John Prasil asked if items the state has acted on to that impact schools budgets will be known ahead of the budget.
Maher said that is likely not going to be the case.
“We’re not going to know what actions they’ve taken on property valuations at the state level this year,’ Maher said. “Our guidance from the department of management is to publish the estimates of our budgets higher because the overall tax rates may be going down.”
Maher said the districts still have to hold hearings and have tentative budgets ready by April 15, but the final filing date for budgets may be the end of April.
