The silver screen will be glowing again soon at the Bijou in Mount Vernon.
Owner Kira Moore said the movie theatre is expecting their new projector to be installed in mid-March.
“Provided our new projector does not get delayed in customs on the way here, we’re very, very optimistic that we’ll have the projector installed in mid-March,” Moore said.
Moore said the community has been very, very supportive of the theatre during the time their business has been shuttered, and that they appreciate the support.
The Bijou will be holding a short GoFundMe project to be announced later, to help offset costs of the new projector.
“We’re very excited and hopeful to be screening some great movies again this spring,” she said.
The Bijou’s projector broke in June 2022, during the opening weekend of “Lightyear” at the theatre. The theatre has held curbside concession stand sales during the interim
The delay has not been due to finances, but due to the parts to fix a projector or a new projector being on a backlog due to supply chain issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moores have communicated several times via their businesses Facebook page about the status of the projector.
After nearly nine months of not screening movies, however, Moore says she sees light coming for the silver screen and movies to be returning to the Bijou this spring.
