The Rams lost 63-50 to the Scots of Monmouth College after a dominant third quarter left them just short in the matchup between the third and fourth seeded teams in the Midwest Conference at Glennie Gym.
A pair of three-pointers by Madison Osborn allowed the Rams (7-8, 6-2 MWC) to stay within four points after one quarter. Madison Wauters also had six points in the first to help the Rams close in on the Scots’ (8-9, 4-4 MWC) 19-14 lead.
The Rams struggled to score in the second quarter only putting up five points as the Scots extended their lead. They were held to a shooting percentage of 9.1 as the Scots extended their lead to 16 points, 35-19, after the half.
An 8-1 run in the third quarter sparked by starter Kali March and Victoria Saucedo off the bench brought the Rams within ten points. March and Saucedo each made a pair of threes with Wauters joining them with a hook shot to bring the Rams storming back as they shot 54.5 percent in the quarter.
The Rams lost the rebound battle 31-22, but what they lacked in rebounds they got in blocks and steals. Four steals, two by March, along with two blocks by Wauters allowed for the Rams to convert 16 points off 12 caused turnovers.
Within five points heading into the fourth quarter, the Rams came within striking distance of the Scots but were unable to hold on as they would go on to lose. March finished with nine points, two steals with Megan Gandrup joining her also with nine points.
