The Mount Vernon speech team earned 22 Division ratings at district contest Saturday, Jan. 21 at Monticello.

WaMaC Conference meetThe Mount Vernon Speech team traveled to large group speech contest at Marion, Monday, Jan. 16. The team had a slight weather delay in travel, due to the reports of potential tornadoes between Mount Vernon and Marion at roughly 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The team placed second overall of the four teams at the WaMac contest with 56 points, behind West Delaware’s 109. Marion had 34 and Independence 18.
Earning Division I ratings were one act play “Overtones,” Group mime “Dark Chocolate,” musical theatres “Spring Awakening,” “Wicked,” group improvisation “Hufflepuffs,” “Women Warriors,” “We Are Chairs,” “Nutty Squirrels” and “Fishless Fingers,” One act play “Scrappy,” choral reading piece “The Assassination of Hope” and “We Bleed Red, Too,” ensemble actings “Nancy Drew,” “This is a Bad Idea,” and “The Battle of Bull Run.”
The musical theatre pieces “Hairspray” and “A Year with Frog and Toad” earned a split rating (one Division I and one Division II) at contest. Others earning split ratings were readers’ theatres “The Dungeon Master” and “If the Sound of Music Had Email,” group mime “Sweet Faces, Sweeter Crime” and group improvisation “No Crystals Here.”
