The Mount Vernon girls varsity wrestling team took part in the Anamosa Girls Tournament Saturday, Jan. 7, finishing in 10th place out of 17 teams.
Five members of the team were out of competition due to various injuries and illnesses.
Libby Dix finished in first place for the Mustangs, with Gracie Pickney and Aly Lashley each finishing third.
“This was our first competition for the girls since Christmas break, and we competed against some of the tougher teams in the state of Iowa,” said Mustangs head coach Trevor Trende.
“That being said, the girls who competed in the tournament wrestled against some tough competition, which is good for us as a team. We were challenged, and the girls embraced it,” he said.
“I believe this was a real test and eye-opener for some of our girls, that we need to keep working hard and improving here going into the postseason. Overall, again, very impressed with how the girls are competing, and excited for another week of competition,” said Trende.
