Cornell’s wrestling team got back to its winning ways Saturday with four decisive victories at the Prairie Wolf Duals hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University.
The Rams handled Nebraska Wesleyan (36-6), Buena Vista (37-14), Milwaukee School of Engineering (44-9) and Westminster (41-15) during their perfect 4-0 day in varsity action. Cornell bumped its season dual record to 7-2.
Senior 133-pounder Evan Husko (10-3) led the charge, going 4-0 with a pair of major decisions. Freshman Gabriel Smith at 157, senior Cory Stewart at 165 and sophomore Cael McLaren at 184 all finished 3-0 at their respective weights.
Smith (14-5), the team leader in wins, recorded two pins and a technical fall in his three contested matches. Stewart (8-5) posted two pins and a major decision.
Freshman 125-pounder Jase Van Pelt (6-3) went 3-1 on the day. Treyten Steffen ((5-4) at 197 and heavyweight Landen Schemmel (10-7) both won their two contested bouts.
The Rams won 30 of the 40 varsity matches held Saturday. They scored bonus points in 26 of them.
Coming up – The Rams head to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the Citrus Invitational Dec. 29-30.
