More than 140 meals were served in person at this year’s Project 60 at Lisbon Schools Thursday, Dec. 8.
The event, run by members of the Lisbon Student Council, serves a holiday meal with all the trimmings to area citizens more than 60 years old.
“We had roughly 30 meals reserved for the area nursing homes,” said J’Nee Reade, Lisbon student council advisor. “They’ve had a bout of RSV going through their buildings, and didn’t want to risk exposure to other people of the illnesses.”
The community event has been going on for more than 12 years.
Besides the meals, were presentations by Lisbon Band, Lisbon High School choir, the elementary choir, and solo performances from students and small groups.
Reade said more than 60 students were on the student council this year and volunteering to help at the meal.
“That’s probably the biggest hurdle, is timing so all of these students are able to help at the event and learn more about how best to serve people in the community and proper manners.”
Student council member Ella Clark said she loves seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces at the event.
“It’s good for the community,” Clark said. “And it’s fun to see everyone here, especially your grandparents.”
Student council member Blair Baltes said she has loved seeing the joy on the faces over the years helping at this event.
“I love helping members of the community have a joyful experience,” Baltes said.
Grayson Wollum said his favorite thing is the atmosphere that comes from the event.
“Seeing so many people so happy for a good meal and camaraderie,” Wollum said.
