Washington Elementary students will hold winter concerts this winter.
According to Sophie Walker, elementary music teacher at Mount Vernon, this is the first time in almost 20 years winter concerts have been held for the elementary school.
“I’m most excited for the kiddos to experience the feeling of a job well done in front of a packed house,” Walker said. “They’ve never had an opportunity like this and have been working so hard both inside and outside of school. I’m so proud of them and know it will be a memorable experience for everyone involved.”
The Begindergarten through second grade concert will be held Monday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m., at the Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center.
The Mount Vernon third and fourth graders will perform Thursday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center. That concert will be followed by the fourth and fifth grade orchestra performance, beginning at 7 p.m.
Doors to the auditorium open at 5:40 p.m. each night.
Each grade will perform a few festive songs at the concert, before a grand finale performance.
Walker invited family members and members of the community to see these concerts.
Other concertsLisbon’s elementary music concerts are also being held the week of Dec. 12.
Monday, Dec. 12, the fourth through sixth grade winter concerts will be held at Lisbon Auditorium. Fourth grade takes the stage at 6 p.m., fifth grade at 6:45 p.m. and sixth grade at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 15, the first through third grade winter concerts will be held at Lisbon auditorium. First grade begins at 6 p.m., second grade beegins at 6:45 p.m. and third grade at 7:30 p.m.
The alternative kindergarten and kindergarten concert is Friday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. at Lisbon auditorium.
People are encouraged to check out the glow art show in the hallways adjacent to the Lisbon auditorium, where works of elementary through high school students will also be featured.
The Mount Vernon high school band and orchestra and Mount Vernon High School choir concert is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 18. The choir performs at the Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center stage first at 2:30 p.m., followed by the band at 4:30 p.m.
