The Mount Vernon boys’ wrestling team hosted Williamsburg Thursday night in duals action and won 45-21.
The team headed to Newton for the Newton Cardinal Classic on Saturday, and finished in the top spot out of the seven teams in competition.
“We wrestled well both Thursday night and Saturday,” said Mustangs coach Vance Light. “We won some matches by a bigger margin than I thought they were going to be.”
At Williamsburg, the Mustangs had wins from Jackson Hird (160), Henry Ryan (170), Ethan Wood (220), Trystin Lashley (285), Klayten Perreault (106), Jake Haugse (113), Croix Shebetka (132), Mikey Ryan (138), Jackson Jaspers (145) and Jackson Rhomberg (152) in varsity matches.
In extra matches, the Mustangs had wins from Caleb Keegan (132) and Cooper Hird (152).
Saturday, Dec. 3The Mustangs ruled the roost at the Newton Cardinal Classic last Saturday, besting the other six teams in contention with a score of 176.5. Second-place Ballard had 167.
Perreault, Henry Ryan, Hird, Mikey Ryan, Jackson Jaspers, Lashley and Jase Jaspers had first place finishes. Haugse, Plotz and Shebetka placed second, Wood placed third. Coon and Goodlove placed fifth. Watson Krob placed sixth. Rhomberg placed seventh.
