And just like that, it’s December.
We’re in the mad dash towards the holidays now, with the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group and City of Mount Vernon’s Magical Night festival returning this evening.
Tonight’s event will be an in-person event, after two years of distanced events.
It’s going to be a bustling uptown.
Next Thursday is Lisbon’s Project 60 event, with registration to attend due by this afternoon.
More than 150 meals are served annually at the event, with musical entertainment from all ages of students at Lisbon performed, as well as Bingo games. The whole event is put on by the Lisbon Student Council students.
There are also going to be several concerts at Lisbon and Mount Vernon schools between now and Dec. 25, and other festive celebrations, like Dance Arts Iowa’s presentation of “The Nutcracker.”
Amidst all that, however, is a reminder that the holidays are going to be tougher on a lot of families this year. Inflation is hitting every one’s pocket books at the moment, and the cost of necessities and gifts only increasing.
Southeast Linn Community Center has been stating that use of the food pantry and other resources has increased the past few years, including through the pandemic.
Now’s the time to remember those who may be less fortunate and donate to causes that help them, especially at the local level.
